Is there a limit to how many tracks you can have on iTunes before it slows everything down? Is there a recommended number? I just passed the 1 day level, which I thought was funny.

I think you can cram in a zillion tracks into itunes before it slows down. I got like 45 days of music in there. And it is still going strong.
