Snap, Crackle and Pop (an article about analog crackles by Momus).

In the 1990s, something strange happened to crackle.

About 15 years ago, I was cutting an album at Porky's Prime Cuts, a mastering studio on London's Shaftesbury Avenue. Those were the days when you couldn't just record some music and burn it onto a CD yourself; you had to take it to expert middlemen to have your recordings level-matched, equalized and prepared for the three formats of the day: CD, vinyl and cassette....
