Fashion show this week

This is an invitation to all the slackers to come to Roope and Cecilia's new fashion show this week. Music, as like last time, will be provided by Roope and Fork Series. I doubt there will be free drinks but it might be okay.

Happy Hunting, Hackers!

I´m out of here. The woods is my new home.

Freaks of the world, unite and take over.

At my job there are a lot of freaks. I thought I would introduce you to some of them. We start with:

Johansson
Nobody knows his name, just the sirname. Been working here since the newspaper started around 1865. He is operating the machine that loads the paper in to the big printing machine. The man is a legend around here. He is bitter, the most bitter person I have ever met. More bitter than me, way more. He is 150 centimeter and stuttering, he hates everything and everybody. Most of all he hates women, immigrants and lazy people. On mondays he eats Pannbiff (minced meat). On tuesday, wednesday, thursday and fridays he eats chicken. If you ask him what he had for lunch he will reply "Curry", for example. That would mean Chicken with curry.

I wonder what he eats on weekends. Babies?

International complaining day

Work hard, get the flu and the catalans bugger u up the ass. God how I love being autonomo, they say January is a tough month for everybody, finaces are low after christmas and all that jazz. Well, what I want to know is what about November & December. Where is my money bitches?

U know who u are and I´ll be visiting u next week with a big dirty bag of germs to throw in your face. All this crap and there is still 8 hours of work left in this week from hell.

BAH HUMBUG

On the bright side of things the new roots manuva album "awfully deep" is great!!

Have a snot free weekend

5 minues (-5 tio, joder)

At the moment it is impossible to be in Spain without constantly having to talk about the weather.

-5 degrees Celcius (yes, he was a Swede) in Barcelona is an immensely popular topic. Infact, I can hardly believe we are all still alive. I wish they would evacuate us all, all of Cataluña, preferibly to some tropical Island. Although it didn't take me longer to write that than to realize that I wouldn't want to be stuck on an island with that amount of catalans. Only the lord knows what will happen this weekend when we all go to our houses and use niveles elevados of electricity. Since we don't have any radiators I hope the whole system breaks down. That's the kind of person I am.

Magical Mystical Musicride, Pt II.

I tried to repeat the success from the other night. Same walk, same time, same weather, new music. Didn´t work. After listening to the Mars Volta album, some other music just seem ridiculous. I plugged the new M83 album in the headphones and it just sounded like shit. (Sorry Steve, I know you are their number one fan). How come all french music sound exactly the same? From Daft Punk, Air to M83. In the end, it sounds exactly the same.

Stupid frogeating winos.

She's now a news anchor in the Netherlands.
I was so in love with her 15 years ago.

Who was your favourite VJ? Ray cokes? Paul King?
Revot, did you have MTV in Yngsjö?

The Mystical Magic of Music

Last night I had one of those moments when it all falls into place. When it is all worth the everyday struggle. Those moments come more and more seldom nowadays.

Erik has been nagging for days about the new Mars Volta album, and finally he got his thumb out his arse and sent it to me. I smacked my pod up and took a dogwalk. It was midnight and full moon. A few degrees below zero and some snow on the ground. Headed towards the big old graveyard, it is locked during night (to keep zombies in or knackers out?), but I know two places where you could sneak in and out. So, that is what I did. In to the huge graveyard, it takes at least 20 minutes just to cross it, dark as a butchers arse, only lit up by the moon reflecting the snow on the ground. If I didn´t have the big bastard dog with me, I wouldn ´t be in there.
Anyway, in my headphones the new Mars Volta album, Frances the mute, and it was so fucking brilliant. Rock Opera? Bombastic to the max. I was filled with the walls of sound they delivered. Erik told me it´s released as a triple vinyl. They shouldn´t go for less. I bought the last album the other day, De-comatosed, and it comes as a gatefold double vinyl with silver discs with out centerstickers, really - really - really nice.
I strolled around in the "empty" graveyard for a short hour, before it got to cold. Zombies let me be, I didn´t disturb them either. Frances the Mute, Warmly recomended.

The Mars Volta

What else is new? Not much I´m afraid. Preparing for a weekend in the woods with Haddokk.

El señor Raclette

While some of you gore into the kids world, some of us adults are trecking further into the world of cheesesesss. Last week I had fondue twice and today, thank god por fin, we are advancing to raclette. I löve raclette, infact I've even learnt how to spell it.

My next will post will be about the weather. Last night we caught James and Cora. They were turning the kitchen into a sauna. That's impressive considering there is a big hole (or well, freshly taped over after the gasmans visit) in the kitchen window.

El señor gas turned of the gas in the kitchen and put protective tape over, indicating/demanding that it should not be used until it had been fixed. Cora tore off the tape.

Keep your eyes open for exploding houses in the sant pere area. I hope it happens during the day when I am not home.

(I am glad she did tore it off. Can ANYONE imagine stepping into our shower under the current weather conditions? We can hardly step into it with hot water)

(Please add more at will).

word on the street has it that there are 5 strains of the flu doing the rounds in sunny bcn, this means they are mutating, getting stronger and eventually going to wipe us all out. Forget oil shortages and melting ice caps, this shit is on our doorsteps. I´m staying indoors for a few days/weeks/months

Statistics are static

According to statistics, 21st of January is the day when most swedes are depressed, suicidal and generally feeling down. It´s one week before payday on the worst month of the year, the weather is terrible, it is dark and summer is still far away. But now it´s the 23rd. We passed the 21st and we´re still alive. I am responsible for a few depressing emails, I can admit that. James, sorry for bitching about life the other day, it´ll be better. Soon. Tomorrow. The day after tomorrow.

Today we did proper male bonding. We went down to Ribersborgs Kallbadhus and did the sauna / winterbath thing. I am in love. I wanna do that every day now. You sit in the sauna for a while and you´re almost boiling inside, and then run out and jump in to the sea. It was snowing, it was cold and it was lovely. It was just lovely being naked among other miserable men for once.

Saw the P3 Gold yesterday on tele, Hans Appelavist won Best Pop Act 2004, not bad. He won another award two weeks ago, the Malmö Music award from Nöjesguiden. It is quite remarkable, as it is quite experimental music, and that I have never heard it on the radio. Not once.

What else is new? I took up smoking again. Just because i could. Doesn´t even taste that good. But I like it anyway. I can´t possibly feel any worse.

Live from El Borne

As the first media, el slacker reports live from the dangerous streets of barcelona where the guardia civil risk their lives to make yours better. We saw it all LIVE on the corner of sant pere mes baix, where the two dirty ganster where hiding, running into the locutorio next to the dirty bar. The testosteron policia dragged them out, while hundreds of us where watching. What does all this mean? Are the street finally safe?

And did you know that 15% of the work force in cataluña están de baja? Me buy contraflu to save the day. TOnights menu: fondue. Mmmmm!

Bitch Slaps for Breakfast

Back to reality. For a moment i thought we were in springtime already. Been having such mild weather lately. Birds been singing. I even saw the sky once not long ago.
But this morning I got reminded that we are still in January. A few months of gray winter in front of us. It was snowing big time, had to struggle my way around with the dog this morning. Geez.

Sunday, planning to go down to Kallis (the wedding place), to do the sauna / winter bath. Me jubilado?
Hell Yeah.

Learn mandarin in Barcelona

Anybody (Andy?) where I can find a good and cheap introductory course of Mandarin in BCN?

Visually updated!

Blenda today. Growing like weed.

For the love of gold

Erik sent me this yesterday. Listened to it this morning during the dark and lonely dogwalk, and I have to say, I have to say it, I love it. Give a close listen to: Gregory_Whitehead-The_Loneliest. Gave me many ideas of arty farty poetry versus music ideas. Drop it likes it´s hot.

Babyswim yesterday. Best thing invented. Wish I could go there every day.
Next week there´ll be a underwater photographer there to take photos of the babies. Expect 10 new Nevermind covers.

And, the weird world of slackers. Check this dude out. He seems to be obsessed by a subject that James posted the 15th of December. Now he built up a complete website about the worlds biggest floating thing. Amazing. To quote Jason: "B15A is a freely floating thing, not just any old floating thing." Thank you, Jason. Check out the link to his B15A site at the bottom of the comments:

Natural 20 - Wanderlust

Yo Slackers,

Another song (not mixed, not mastered of course), Wanderlust, let´s see if any of you nerds can spot the voicesample used for this... It´s from a movie...

Something´s fucked up with the piano but hey, it´ll be fixed on a final version.

Wow, internet at home, it´s cool :)

Coldcut and the herbaliser

For all the slackers in barcelona, this should be a great gig on Thursday night in Apollo. I for one have taken Friday off work :) Slack your bitch up and join me-----------------

BTW. Amon Tobin´s new track "The Lighthouse" is totally recommended.

Sorry, we're huelging

5 out of 7 days I get the train. The renfe train. The renfe people aren't happy. They're on strike. Infact, they like striking so much that they're on strike most days and they always attack the innocent Vilanova line, leaving me with a red angry face and very, very little sympathy for those traindriving stingy greedy morons. No one wonder I am getting miself a fancy car.

In The Mood For Charity

100.000 retinas and BAFF are putting on a special showing of IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE by Wong Kar Wai, one of my all-time favourite films on Monday 24th January at 8:30pm at the CINEAMBIGÚ at the Apolo. It costs 4,5€ and 100% of the money collected will go to the Tsunami Relief Fund. 100.000 Retinas I went to see 2046 the other day. I thought it was great but Roope hated it. Anyone else seen it?

your life today?¿ noooooooooo my life today

What a strange week.

I´ve spent long hours staring at catalan texts on Chamber orchestras, discovered a new useless word to add to my catalan vocabulary (fagot),got sent a Swedish text to translate haha, spent what seemed like an eternity looking for a translation from Wólof to English and in what is probably the weirdest of all is that a company here googled "native english teachers barcelona" and jammmy spawny jimbob got a new contract.

Also got a cool new book called Eats Shoots & Leaves that looks at mispunctuation in English in a very snobby way.........................

A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

and highlights the CD´s,DVD´s,Video´s and Book´s thingy that when you think about you see everywhere.

Anyway the reason for this blog b4 bed is to ask for suggestions, I´ve got a mental block on this title in English.

El Tradicionàrius aposta per la cultura tradicional com a element cohesionador

All catchy suggestions or even any suggestions welcome

my life today

I’m a CEO with 28 employees, 10 are analphabets and all of them work for free.
About three are incapable of tying their own shoes and many of them cry if you raise your voice too much.
Most of them can’t count to more then 100 and almost everyone drop their food when they eat.
Some of them pick their noses in public with no embarrassment at all.
I’m now officially the form master of a first grade class in limhamn.

Say it with a postcard...

We´re having the warmest January in 200 years. Should we be happy?
How warm will July be?

Pitchforkmedia is now re-launched. For geeks like me, that is like christmas all over again.

Yes it's true

The moment you've all been waiting for is here, rebott returns after weeks in Freezelandia. Back in Pere I found various new things in the flat, 7-11 magnets, a pair of Massimo Dutti trousers hanging in my wardrobe (?), a new book... but most important: A Hongkong DVD! ¡VIVA ANDY!

After the evil Don Tomas ran back to Swedeland with the DVDflat (it was never proven it was his) peace has been restored as Andy brought Hong kong power to the poor Spaniards. The machine is looking cool, slim and mean. It is very small, but our TV gets away with being even smaller. A new TV has been promised as well, after the old one left with a big bang.

Why aren't there more kind people like Andy out there? They can all come and visit.

Need New Body!

This is a funky and very stoopid video for Need New Body, a weird (but very good) band from Philadelphia (actually one member, Griff, is from Chicago, and is also in Icy Demons and Him). I stayed with them in Philadelphia when I went to New York in October and had my first "Philly Cheese Steak" (basically, it's a sandwich with roast beef and lots of cheap, greasy cheese on). The song is from the new album on Kill Rock Stars' new imprint, 5RC, and is more Zappa than anything else. They are playing at ATP in the UK soon, too. I want to go but it's sold out, as per usual. Slint are coming to Barcelona for the Primavera Sound presentation night at the Apolo I hear, too.

Music news and abuse

The UK top ten singles this week are:
1. ‘Jailhouse Rock’ – Elvis Presley
2. ’Against All Odds’ – Steve Brookstein
3. ‘The Number Of The Beast’ – Iron Maiden
4. ‘Breathe’ – Erasure
5. ‘Filthy / Gorgeous’ – Scissor Sisters
6. ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ – Band Aid 20
7. ‘Object Of My Desire’ – Dana Rayne
8. ‘Cutt Off’ – Kasabian
9. ‘Boulevard Of Broken Dreams’ – Green Day
10. ‘Out Of Touch’ – Uniting Nations

Iron Maiden "Number of the Beast"? Band Aid? Erasure? The King?
What year is it nurse? I am lost.

Also, the Joy Divison film is finally gonna be made and, thankfully, they've chosen Anton Corbijn to do it. Shouldn't be too bad.

Alright friends. Happy 2005.

Any plans for this year? My only new-years-promise is: Enjoy Life More.

So far, I think I managed quite well.

This is why El Slacker shoud be your number one concern this year:

"Some scientists are concerned that the need for speed is shrinking our attention spans, prompting our search for superficial answers and settling us into a rhythm of constant interruption in which deadlines are relentless and tasks are never quite finished.

Scientists call this phenomenon "cognitive overload," and say it encompasses the modern-day angst of stress, multitasking, distraction and data flurries."
