No More Dough For This Dude!

I stay put at Skånska Dagbladet. Sad bat true. In the end they picked some other fellon for that job. Probably for the best. I don´t need more money, dirty sex and better office. I´m made for bad coffee, bad jokes and bad breath. Today at the coffeebreak they been talking about Åke R. Where the "R" is short for "Runk". Åke Runk. Åke Wank. He got some diabetes problem.

I bought myself a new pair of headphones. Koss Porta Pro. Best shit I have ever bought. It´s a killing combination together with the gaypod. Yes.

Been listening to the new Soundtrack of our lives for the last couple of days. And I have to admit that I love it. Pure, simple rock´n´roll for simple people like little me. James, remember the album you bought and then gave to me coz you thought it sounded like a bad version of Oasis? I been listening to that album as well, and it´s not bad at all. The trick to it is to play it in reversed order (no, not backwards to find hidden messages), side D first, then C, then B, and never, ever side A. Then it´s really good. I´ll give it back to you next time I see you. Word.

No signs or sights of Junior. Maybe it was all hoax.

Tell the friend of your friends that your friends have a new release of some friends of theirs. James is hair.

The new NOW mini-album is out there. Fresh and fast! I love it. I´m sure you will to.

Natural 20 - Ursa Major

Hej boys and girls,

I´ve done some more music, check it out at:

www.lostreet.com

It´s a new alias (the latest and absolutely last one, everything I do will now be under this name) Natural 20.

Enjoy!

Once again,

I am writing in response to Mr. Tomas Melinder's equivocations, and once again, I merely wish to point out that the downward spiral of society and the concomitant growing threat of McCarthyism are the natural results of Tomas's catty tricks. What follows is a call to action for those of us who care -- a large enough number to provide a trenchant analysis of Tomas's fulminations. His idea of stingy, lackluster Bonapartism is no political belief. It is a fierce and burning gospel of hatred and intolerance, of murder and destruction, and the unloosing of a ridiculous blood-lust. It is, in every literal sense, a stupid and pagan religion that incites its worshippers to a neo-quislingism-oriented frenzy and then prompts them to destroy the lives of good, honest people. Okay, there's no reason for me to be delirious, so I'll leave you with this concept: Neurotic, coldhearted maggots have traditionally tried to piggyback on substantive issues to gain legitimacy for themselves.

Lost weekends

Another exciting weekend of work/smurk/mierda, this is 2 consecutive weekends of burying my head in catalan dictionaries and coming out the other side a slightly wobbly boy. But then again maybe it was trying to fit a whole weekend into a friday night debauchery session on the mean streets of bcn with the Irish posse.

Somebody must have done something more interesting than my pitiful attempt at squashing my weekend into 9 hours of self indulgent behaviour....... anyone??

Bohman, it would be cool if u came for New Years, nothing planned here yet early days yet. Whose car is coming down?

Tomas, any news??? Probably not, if I was Junior I´d be staying inside untill spring

For those of you who remember him...

Here's a picture of Oliver, keeping it real in NYC last weekend.

iTunes, there I am...

Is there a limit to how many tracks you can have on iTunes before it slows everything down? Is there a recommended number? I just passed the 1 day level, which I thought was funny.

Jim, you're sick. You made that t-shirt. I saw it for sale on www.nativos.org in four different languages.

Tomas, my brother is on his way over to Malmö right now to kick your skinny white boy ass. Actually, he gave up drinking a few months ago so laughed it off over a cup of Chai tea.

Waking up at Domus

To catch up with an old post, the one about Bonnie Prince Billy and the Maria Carey cover. It is released as a B-side on 7", Agnes - queen of sorrow. But yesterday while listening to the split ep with Brightblack he smuggled that track in their as well, combined with the cover of Babylon System (B. Marlery). I have to say it, i have to say it, it´s probably me. No, but, really. It is one of the best track I´ve heard this century. Check it up! (I´ll try to post the track as soon as I get my computer back)

James. Are you there? Is this your brothers car? Yes or no?

Waking up in NYC

NYC was fun. I saw all the sights and heard all the sounds. I took a yellow cab, I ate pizza, I went to Chinatown and drank a lot of coffee. Went to the Lower East Side (the cooler side of Manhattan), Greenwich Village (uptown but trendy), Brooklyn (chilled and very bohemian) and SoHo (expensive). All in all, very cool. Wouldn't live there, though, it's just a bit too much. Back in Chicago now waiting for news about Junior, drinking Chai tea (my new drink of choice) and staring at my laptop.

Fragile Nose

Haddokk sneezed so bad that he hit his (quite big) nose in the ground and scratched it. Poor dog.

James, So will Fork Series. The part of Fork Series that runs on blogger is running on the nosordo server, as the Aa server doesn´t allow that kind of business. As soon as i have the new server up and running, I´ll fix it. Should get the new Fork web up soon, no?

Viva the kurds! Heja!

I think some of you saw the documentary with this woman's husband who's living in Sweden?

Kurdish activist waits nine years to accept prize

15/10/2004 Deutsche Welle

Leyla Zana is seen by many Kurds as an icon of their cause She had to wait almost a decade for this moment, but on Thursday Leyla Zana was in Brussels to thank the European parliament for the Sakaharov prize, awarded to her in 1995. Kurdish human rights activist, Leyla Zana won the European Parliament’s Sakharov freedom prize in 1995 for her peaceful work to advance human rights for the Kurdish minority in Turkey.

Then 34 years-old, she was unable to collect it, because she was imprisoned in Turkey for suspected ties to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, the PKK. A Kurdish member of the Turkish parliament, Zana had been sentenced to 15 years in prison. She had served ten years of that sentence before her release in June this year.

Widely seen as a prisoner of conscience, her release was viewed as a sign of Turkey’s commitment to the legal and political reforms demanded by the European Union as terms of its accession. A court freed her under pressure from EU officials who said she had not received a fair trial. An appeals court is currently reviewing the case.

Implementation still ’cosmetic’
Speaking partly in Turkish and partly in Kurdish -- a language whose public use was long banned in Turkey -- Zana, a former pro-Kurdish lawmaker, called on Turkey Thursday for dialogue between cultures and greater rights for Turkey’s minority Kurds. "Violence has outlived its time," Zana told the European Union assembly. "The language and method of solution of our age is dialogue, compromise and peace. It is not ’die and kill,’ but ’live and let live’." She said efforts to improve human rights in order to meet European Union criteria would otherwise be meaningless. "Significant steps have certainly been taken towards democracy. But the implementation of these steps still seems cosmetic," Zana said. "The Copenhagen criteria must be implemented in essence and not just in words."

An uneasy relationship

The first Kurdish woman ever to serve in the Turkish parliament, Zana took her parliamentary oath in 1991. But when she insisted on speaking Kurdish, Turkey was outraged. She and three other lawmakers were later barred from the assembly. Then, in 1994, she was jailed for alleged ties to Kurdish separatists. Over 30,000 people died in the early 1990s, when Kurdish rebels fought for an ethnic homeland in south-eastern Turkey.

Turkey’s 12 million Kurds have long had an uneasy relationship with the Turkish state, which cracked down on Kurdish expressions of culture, fearful of separatist tendencies. Although bans on Kurdish broadcasting and education have been largely lifted during Turkey’s drive to join the EU, use of the language is still heavily regulated. Zana stressed Thursday that Ankara still has a long way ahead of it.

Resolving the Kurdish issue

In Brussels one week after the European Commission presented its opinion on whether Turkey has met the conditions for opening EU membership talks, she urged the Turkish government to remove restrictions on the Kurdish population. "The Turkish government must put on its agenda the democratic solution to the Kurdish issue by giving it a proper name," she said. "Everything that is not given a name and not defined is without identity," she argued. "Every living thing on earth has a name. It is only the Kurds who do not have a name," she told the 732-member assembly, which gave her speech a standing ovation. "There is no reason for not defining the issue, and there is no reason for fearing dialogue and peace," she said. "The Kurds are firmly resolved to introduce a peaceful solution within Turkey’s territories." DW Staff (jp)

Will there not be an official invite for Saturday?

How are we suppose to know if we should come?
What if I don't dress the right way?
What if I arrive too early? or late?

So many questions, so few weekends.

Yesterday me and Cora watched a "serie juvenil" on tv but they were all older than me. I think? What does it mean? Andy, did the mög arrive in your part of the world? Are the cables to the keyboard there...? Are you going to send them back or que is the plan?

The rules are simple, u just turn up at steve´s 2mrw night, everybody will receive a sheet of paper with 1000 words to be translated from catalan to english. Nobody knows the complete text but at the end of the night all will be revealed (sounds exciting??)

Remember places are limited, 2b 1 of the lucky participants just add your name below..........

Panic Room

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiih!

I have to admit that I have been postponing coping with the feelings about this whole giving birth thing. It came to me like a good bitch slap last night while trying to fall asleep. Mama! I don´t know how I will be able to deal with a situation like that. Blood, sweat and tears. Feelings stronger than life. Strange fluids and a lot of female power.
Normally I faint just looking at a needle. And blood. I hate blood. My stomach is twisting right now by just thinking of the situation. And in muy, muy poco tiempo I am supposed to be supporting my wife while she is giving birth to some little bastardo. My very own little special bastardo.

Really. I think it will be too much for me.

Send me your good thoughs.

De La Shit

Ok. I been trying to be open-minded. To enjoy the beats and rhymes. To stop being so arty-farty. To let go of my ideas of having fun. I been listening to the new De La Soul album for a couple of days.

I still think it is pure shit. Not one single track on the album is worth listening to. It is sad. Flavor flav is a sellout. DLS are bums.

It says nothing to me about my life. Or nothing to me that about a life that I am interested in.

Call me a liar, a fool, a grumpy old and dirty bastardo. I am proud. My dad is hair.

Doesn´t make things easier for the waking-up part of the morning hours either.

Saw Det Gamla Landet live last night at Inkonst. They are getting better and better live. The place was packed until the last squaremeter. Only coffee and fresh cinnamon rolls were served. Sound was shit, DGL was fab. They could blow up "big". Big for an instrumental band at least. They should. They are worth it.

New Savath & Savalas album looking good: Out on warp now...

I got the new CD from Komplott last night, Son of Clay. Apart from being excellent music it came packaged in the new sexy jewelcase. I linked some info about it on the blog a while ago. And now I got to see it IRL. Looking good.

They called me up from that job I went for an interview with. They want me to come back this friday for another chat. Good & Bad. If they offer me a job I have to take a stand. I don´t like that.

The new face of 2004?

Here's my story: I got asked to design a flyer as a favour for a guy I know who runsBetter Propaganda. He said he needed a flyer in about an hour as he had to send them to the CMJ Music Marathon in New York this week (I am going on Wednesday). So I did what I could and needed something to decorate the text and chose a photo I had on file. What better photo to use for 5000 flyers for the most important music industry event in New York than one of a man on his wedding day? they printed it on excellent light-brown card stock, too, so it look great. They'll be in New York in the morning and one will be put into the official CMJ bag for participants! I hope you don't mind, dude...

Sampling Forbidden

Dig that Sample? No Pay, No Way
XLR8R magazine #81

Text: Jialin Luh

A federal appeals court in Cincinnati, Ohio ruled early this month that artists must pay for every musical sample included in their work, even if the snippets used are
unrecognizable.
This ruling sprang from federal laws passed to curb piracy of digital recordings; a
three-judge panel of the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that those laws apply to
digital sampling.

Though lower courts previously ruled that artists had to pay when sampling others’ work, samples were defined as recognizable pieces; it was legal to use musical snippets (note, chord etc) as long as it wasn’t identifiable. This recent decision nullifies the distinction. The reason behind the decisioning is this: If you can’t pirate a whole sound recording, you should not be permitted to sample less than the whole either.

Many think this will have a chilling effect on creativity, as, for example, hip-hop
artists have often rhymed over samples of music taken from an old jazz, funk, or soul track.

The case at issue here dealt with NWA’s song “100 Miles and Runnin,” which sampled a three-note guitar riff (totaling two seconds) from “Get Off Your Ass and Jam” by George Clinton and the Funkadelic. Appearing five times in the new song, the sampled guitar pitch was lowered, looped, and extended to 16 beats. Clinton himself was not opposed to sampling- having produced the albums Sample Some of Dis and Sample Some of Dat, which explicitly encourage artists to sample without legal scrutiny.

Bridgeport Music and Westbound Records claimed copyright ownership of the Funkadelic song, taking it to court in 2002. Initially lower courts ruled that the riff in Clinton’s song was entitled to copyright protection, but the sample had been altered beyond legal recognition. The appeals court disagreed, saying that a recording artist who intentionally uses a sample may be liable even when the source of the sample is unrecognizable.

The Oracle Said Wanker
Early stage of Midlife Crisis

Is it a good sign when you don´t stop surprising yourself? Even if the surprises are somewhat not very funny-ha-ha? In two days i found myself in situations that are quite obvious signs of early midlife crisis.

1. I bought a new jacket this weekend. Showed it proudly to Josephine telling here that this is my winterjacket. She explains to me that it is very similar to the one i have, the summerjacket. That is a lie. It is not similar. It is exactly the same. A blue, smart jacket. You couldn´t tell one from the other. Maybe the old one was a bit worn out. But they are identical. I think that from now on, I will buy exactly the same kind of clothes for the rest of my life.

2. At lunch i popped in to H&M to check for a new pair of jeans. I have one pair that I use every day, disgusting. I found myself in front of the LOGG jeans and thought they looked nice & OK. Didn´t buy them as I wanted to ask Josephine if they were OK.
A. LOGG jeans are not for youngsters. B. Youngsters don´t ask their partners for permition to buy jeans. I bought a pyjama for Junior instead.

Negroni & Jahbitat @ Apolo

Sup dudes and dudettes?

Took some photos last night of (off?) Negroni and the Jahbitat show at Apolo.

I went to Negroni with my lady and had another White Russian.

Afterwards we headed down to Apolo where the venezuelan posse was in full effect.
Junior rocking the graphics and Simon putting on an excellent show I must say.

Simon on computer keys, bass, rapping and even a bit of singing! El Chavo on
decks sporting a pair of excellent golf-type of pants, 10 style points to him. And some dude on drums who played excellent.
I was impressed, and how important those livedrums are. He played a short set
around 5 songs, and what can I say, promising! very.

Earlier that evening I rocked an exchange with Simon, he gave me his CD and I gave
him my shiny new Lo Street sampler which I hand-printed with my own sello de goma. :)

Here´s some photos: (They´re really fucking ugly, I can easily say that I´m not
